As things get amped up for the 2013 CrossFit Games, I have been watching videos and reading articles daily as well as following all of my favorite "Pro" CrossFitters on Twitter. Recently Dan Bailey, an awesome athlete, fellow believer, and just an overall outstanding guy showed his funny side with a "promo" video for Broflex, stating he was ready for a run at the top spot in the CrossFit world - "Fittest Man in the World". In his video he states...he is ready:
Now, this may only be humorous to CrossFitters as it mocks one of the past time fads of fitness the "Bowflex", but it certainly made my two daughters crack up when they saw it. They especially enjoyed the "Quads!" section. I tweeted Dan and shared that my kids have really enjoyed mimicking his video and he asked for a video of them doing it...here it is:
So, as we enter Pool Season, Beach Season, and the CrossFit Games Finals, I hope you enjoy these two little bits of humor! Get out there and get after it!
Musings from a Bible-believin', gun-totin', Jeep-drivin', Crossfittin', happily-married, father of two.

EMOMs, the new thing
Until I watched a video on Froning and Bailey and how they were training...I had never heard of this style of training. What is an EMOM? EMOM is an acronym for Every Minute On the Minute. So, at the start of each minute you complete whatever the EMOM workout is and you continue this for the prescribed amount of minutes. For example, this morning my workout consisted of the following:
20 minute EMOM
3 Power Cleans (135 lbs)
5 Toes-to-Bar
So, as my timer beeped the top of the minute I did the power cleans and toes-to-bar and then you "rest" until the timer beeps the top of the next minute and do it all over again...20 times.
I usually use this design for my strength workout (before my metcon). For example, I'll do EMOM 7 minutes of 5 Back Squats at 80% max....or..... EMOM 10 minutes of body weight bench press by 3.....or..... EMOM 8 minutes of 135 lb Hang Power Cleans x 5 reps.
I have really enjoyed this new twist to my morning workouts and I think you might to! Try it out!

This is an article (from the Crossfit Journal) and video about two of the men expected to place in this year's Crossfit Games which will take place next month.
As Rich Froning Jr. stepped out onto the competition floor at the 2011 Reebok CrossFit Games, many wondered what was written on his shoes. He says it was a line from scripture focused on the crucifixion of Christ.
“If I ever got tired and looked down at my shoe, I was kinda like, ya know, ‘This is nothing compared to what he went through for us,’” says the world’s fittest man.
Dan Bailey, who finished sixth at last year’s Games, says that during competition he thinks about what he’s grateful for.
“It’s not all about where you finish. It’s about the effort you give,” he explains. “You can easily put yourself in the position where, ‘Well, I’m not going to win, so why try?’ And that’s the complete wrong attitude to have … in anything in life. You have to do the best with what you have and do the best with what you’re given.”
Both men say God has given them gifts, and they understand that it’s not all about them.
“I figure this is my way to glorify him in all that I do,” Froning says.

Getting Serious
At the Crossfit Regionals in Columbus, Dan Bailey set a new world record for the "Diane" WOD. You can check it out below...and yes, it is totally beast! Watching the games has made me want to get more serious (no I wasn't serious enough before) about my workouts and my overall health. Recently, my wife and I have started to make the move towards a more plant-based diet. Read that again if you need to. I did NOT say we're turning into vegetarians, because Lord knows I still enjoy a good burger or steak. We will just focus more on eating healthier. I'll keep you posted with results as I see them develop. I can already say this, after one week...I feel overall better. Is this all in my head? Maybe, but I doubt it. Anyway, check out Bailey below, this man is an animal!!!
